9/11-A GOOD RESPONSE

NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE
30 Million Americans are expected to provide some form of service this week, many of them today, as we observe another anniversary of 9/11.
In our coastal village on the Pacific, far away from New York City, it is a blood drive.  Volunteering to do something good, helpful and constructive has, since 2009, been the official way to recall that September in 2001.
I was in both New York, near the Trade Center and Washington, near the Pentagon on September 10th.  Because of a missed meeting we had debated staying over until the 11th.  I am forever grateful we decided to return to Indianapolis.
WHERE WERE YOU?
See you down the trail.

  1. I was teaching a college class in downtown Portland when we heard about the towers coming down. It's hard to teach a class when the students are crying.

  2. We were still sleeping when our daughter called from Washington and told us to turn on the TV, it was truly horrifying and surreal.

  3. I was at home in Orange, California. A couple of days later I was on my way to DC, on the second plane out of LAX to Dulles after they reopened the field. Recalled to my office at the Pentagon, 4A810 (more or less). Intelligence officers were the only folks with the appropriate clearances to do certain types of debris sorting.

    An intense experience.

  4. I was teaching Art On Cart in Plano Tx. I pushed my cart into 2nd grade and saw the look on my coworkers faces. We didn't tell our students what happened but we were all a mess. My freshman daughter was at home after swim practice calling me on my flip phone. She was watching it live on the Today show. I recall as a mom and teacher wanting to protect the children.

  5. I saw it on CNN and woke up SWMBO and told her to turn on her t.v. We watched it all day.
