RELAX----THE WEEKENDER

RELAX
Can you?  Do you?  How frequently?  How do you relax?
Leading questions that were launched by the admonition of a friend in response to a recent post.
It's no doubt a good thing to do, just relax. But it's difficult for some to do so.

THE WEEKENDER-WILD

A TALE OF TWO WILDS
A couple of viewing experiences for you this weekend, both occurring just a couple of hours from each other.
One for meditation, the other for motivation, sort of.

THE WEEKENDER-SKYLINES

PAINTING THE SKY
Gale winds from the Pacific create an interesting seascape, adding texture to the surf.

One of my favorite quiet spots is just off a rock.  It offers a place for a meditation on the setting sun.  A relaxation for this Memorial Day weekend.

The Weekender Video offers another take on painting a skyline.
Have a great weekend.
See you down the trail.

THE WEEKENDER-SHADOWY

THE SHADOWS
As a kid I heard a story teller who said shadows are where the magic lives.  Later I interviewed a native American medicine man or shaman who said when the shadows fall spirits begin to move.  An old Scot essayist once said the twilight is when dreams walk and is the portal between realities.
There is a fascination in the gloaming and a magic in shadows.  This weekend, let your imagination be a guide.

THE WEEKENDER-ROCKIN' THE WORK PLACE

ROCKIN' THE OFFICE
As a reporter, correspondent and news anchor, my work space was always in a large newsroom setting.  It wasn't until I began work as a ceo that I got a corner office and one even had a view of a lake and green space. Going back into journalism I had a great large office walled by windows-one side viewing the street and the other looking down onto a huge working news operation.
Where do you work?  What do you think of this work space?
The outcropping on a wide bench overlooking the Pacific
is where Salinan Indians spent hours, grinding grasses or
nuts into a food paste.
Modern Californians have discovered these grinding mortars or holes, that centuries ago were part of tribal food prep.
Tucked conveniently into rocks, the native people could sit, work the mortars and take in the view from the office window.
Hard to top an office with this view?
THE VIDEO
It would have been fun to sit in the office when the pitch for this spot was done.  Here's a smile or two for your weekend.  Enjoy.

THE WEEKENDER-PRINCELY WORK & SHADOW PLAY

TIS APPRECIATED
Well, I didn't expect it.  Thanks to those of you have responded publicly, or by email or like my friend and fellow tennis warrior Janos, in person.
I noted that my old pal Griff, chided me about the number of flowers captured in these posts.  It was nice to hear that you have taken the time to look at my snaps.  I'm simply dazzled by the beauty and as the old saying goes
"can't help myself!"  So, more pics of floral color still to come. Sorry Griff!
A PRINCE OF A FORECAST
The Weekender fun video comes from YouTube and is an unusual take on a local weather report.
Having hired, coached and managed television "talent" I think the Prince is a natural! Apparently I'm not alone. Here's a quick behind the scenes evaluation of his royalness in tv land.

THE WEEKENDER-IT FEELS BETTER

OK TO RELAX

You're not alone if the events of the week left you wanting to curl up like this.
Many questions to be answered, and lots of healing to be done, but this nation breaths easier now. Boston especially can relax.
So this weekend, this just feels right.
Even if you've seen an earlier version, The Weekender
prescribes this tonic, this weekend, for sure.

THE WEEKENDER-HOW YOUR PHONE CAN KEEP YOU HEALTHY & EXOTICS

THIS IS CREATING THE FUTURE
A story by NBC News has been getting a good pass along, deservedly so, because it is both hopeful and a bit mind-blowing. Creative thinking and development such as this is a reason for optimism.  This Weekender Video shows how your phone, could be even better for you.

Even the blooms of the "bottle brush" tree strike me as exotic.
A REPURPOSED SCHOOL
a great gallery
I was pleased to see Lana's modernist Aguacante, a biomorphic abstract, in such a place of prominence in the recent hanging at the Cambria Allied Arts Association Gallery.
Bruce Marchese's award winning Waterfall hangs on the left.
The well lit space is part of the repurposing of the old Cambria Grammar school.
Behind the door at the end of the hall is the auditorium now converted to a theatre and used by a superb local theater group.
Halls that were once filled with the sound of children now  hear the reaction of art fans and patrons as they view the latest monthly offering of Cambria's distinguished art colony.
    See you down the trail.

THE WEEKENDER-YOUR PROFILE

WHO ARE YOU?
WE KNOW.
Frequent readers may recall my cautionary concerns about the surrender of information autonomy to convenience, communication and the aggregating power of algorithms.
As an aside in this battle, I'd prefer to write the word, rather than have the spell check, auto write function fill in or begin to assume the word I wish to say. But this is the age of information warfare and collateral damage comes in many forms, so we all soldier on. Hopefully, wisely.
Well, this is The Weekender and we try to keep the mood light and entertaining, so it is in that vein we bring you this video beware.  It's a pitch, but the message makes sense.

THE WEEKENDER-PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY

ON HIGHWAY 1
This was the scene this week on our most recent drive through Big Sur. It was that magic stretch of Highway 1, the Pacific Coast Highway, which took hold of our hearts on our first journey in 1969.
As our pal Jim, who introduced us to Big Sur, said, "It never disappoints."
There is something new along America's iconic coast highway.
The extraordinary construction between Lime Kiln and the
Bixby bridge continues.
The shot below shows the massive bridge like cover that is being built in an area prone to slides and washouts.  The stone edifice is being connected to the mountain wall.
It was just north of there where we caught up with the past.  Our Weekender Video shows you something you likely have never seen.  Enjoy.
A UNIQUE SCENE

THE WEEKENDER-Just Fun

CAN YOUR IPAD DO THIS?
This link came from my friend Janos. Before the week was over, several others sent it to me as well.
What a great pitch man eh? You don't even need to understand what he's saying.
CAT MOMENTS
As Yogi Berra said, "You can observe a lot just by watchin'."
So it is with me and our cats, and so it might be for them.
Oh, he's got that camera out again.
Hurry up and take the shot. I want to got back to sleep.
Why are you looking down here? I didn't think you could see me.
 Hmmm
Enough already!
This smells good. Feels good too.
You woke me up for that?
Have a great weekend.  See you down the trail.
