THE WEEKENDER-ROCKIN' THE WORK PLACE

ROCKIN' THE OFFICE
As a reporter, correspondent and news anchor, my work space was always in a large newsroom setting.  It wasn't until I began work as a ceo that I got a corner office and one even had a view of a lake and green space. Going back into journalism I had a great large office walled by windows-one side viewing the street and the other looking down onto a huge working news operation.
Where do you work?  What do you think of this work space?
The outcropping on a wide bench overlooking the Pacific
is where Salinan Indians spent hours, grinding grasses or
nuts into a food paste.
Modern Californians have discovered these grinding mortars or holes, that centuries ago were part of tribal food prep.
Tucked conveniently into rocks, the native people could sit, work the mortars and take in the view from the office window.
Hard to top an office with this view?
THE VIDEO
It would have been fun to sit in the office when the pitch for this spot was done.  Here's a smile or two for your weekend.  Enjoy.
     See you down the trail.

DRIFTWOOD BUILDERS

DRIFTWOOD DREAMS
One of the all time great driftwood beaches is the stretch from Shamel Park to Moonstone Beach in Cambria.
I wonder what tourists do with all of the pieces they haul off the beach.  I imagine mobiles, picture frames and other art creations populate homes and serve as souvenirs.
Some of the building though, never leaves the Moonstone, Shamel Park beaches.
Here's a quick look at a couple of nearly "permanent" driftwood castles.

ENOUGH ALREADY & A PACIFIC MOMENT

IS IT ME
OR IS NEWT BEING A JERK?
One of the hot and trending topics of the day is that
failed Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is still getting
Secret Service protection. According to published records, that is at a cost of about $ 42,000 a day.  $42 K a day to protect Gingrich?!!
The porcine and largely unpopular former Speaker of the House was never a serious candidate, other than in his own mind.  His staff abandoned him.  Voters rejected him. Party leaders despise him.  Comics mock him. It seems the only thing he's qualified for is to be a stand in for the Pillsbury dough boy.
I have long suspected this whole candidacy  farce is about feeding his considerable ego, trumping up his profile so he can earn bigger dollars as a lobbyist and "advisor" and to sell what ever book his swampy mind conjures.
I hope the GOP convention planners ice Gingrich.  In the meantime taxpayers should demand this demagogue not only no longer get Secret Service protection, but pay back what his coverage has cost since he "suspended" his pathetic campaign. Can you say contemptible?

ANOTHER FACE OF THE PACIFIC
It is evident some of you didn't care much for the video of the Slime Eels posted yesterday.
They are oddly fascinating, but I was taken by surprise they are being harvested in the local sea bed.
Well for those of you, some who posted a reply and some who sent me an email, not so positive about those creatures,
here is a more tranquil short on the Pacific, just a few miles north.
See you down the trail.

GOOD NEWS IN WINE COUNTRY

PASO SHINES
IN ALL SEASONS
Living in the Paso Robles Appellation has its
obvious advantages, but it also has made us
partisans, or provincials.
We love the beauty of the area, certainly
enjoy the outstanding wine and
we love to share it with friends.
We are also excited when the wine
or the image of area wins awards.
The producer/director is Dina Mande of Juice.
Though it is not my favorite of her work
here's a link to her most recent video which is
a lot of fun.
After watching this on YouTube, you
can also access her award winning video
plus her other work.
Congrats to Dina, Christopher Taranato and cheers to all
in the Paso wine district.
See you down the trail.
