SHOW TIME
A SLO TREASURE
We recently discovered the Leaning Pine Arboretum on the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo. What a jewel it is!
There's been an unusual amount of commotion along the Cambria to San Simeon shoreline this year.

The warmer ocean has brought an extraordinary number of humpback whales closer to shore.
It is a great enjoyment to hear the oohs and ahhs and wonderment of tourists who maybe seeing their first whale up close.
The Central Coast has been a beautiful western stage this summer.
BEARS
I am an unabashed fan and enthusiast of Yosemite National Park, wishing that everyone could visit and feel the experience.
The park prepares excellent video reports and this piece on bears, featuring some almost unbelievable historic footage is too good not to share with readers of this blog.
Enjoy.
I remember going to Glacier and Yellowstone with my Mom, Dad and sister in the 50's. Both parks had bleachers, we sat in them and watched bears eat the left over food from the restaurants from maybe 50 feet away. The bears ate under floodlights to entertain us. During the day, they'd stand on the road and panhandle, people would get out of their cars and pose for snap shots with the bears...it was insane
ReplyDeleteThat video is a great example of the harm humans have done to the natural environment and its occupants, the bears.
ReplyDeleteI would love to live in a lace with this type of light, where you could count on sunshine most of the time.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos --and thanks particularly for Cal Poly SLO shots. As a long-time gardener of public places, that sort of topiary was a really fun part of the job.
