READING NEIL

AN ARTISTIC SPIRIT
I have my late brother Jim to thank for turning me on to Neil Young.

Jim was a devoted fan and his enthusiastic playing and gifting of the Harvest album led me into fandom all those years ago.

Jim, who was also a writer and player at music thought Young possessed a perspective that put him into a league of his own.
Now, Young is opening up and talking a bit about his eccentric, creative and unique life.

In advance of his book Waging Peace, Young has spent time with journalists, itself an unusual act for the private troubadour.

It's not too early to be thinking about a Christmas gift of
a book for the music or Neil Young fan in your life.

Here is a vintage Young performance from the time my younger brother pointed me in the right direction.  This is dedicated to Jim.
See you down the trail.

  1. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose a brother, and even though it's been a long time (?) let me offer my condolences. Neil Young is certainly a titan of music.

  2. Been a Neil fan forever. I have his Massey Hall concert poster framed in my office. I found it at fundraiser in Malibu. I read the article this morning, great read. My son in law (ex) taught at the Bridge School for 5 or 6 years, became a plumber, the money is better.

  3. I was captured by Neil when "The Godfather of Grunge" appeared and adopted Pearl Jam in the 1990's.

I was about fifteen when "Uncle Neil" joined the boys onstage at the MTV VMA awards, and this unannounced appearance got me out of my seat.

  4. Hi Tom, small world...I graduated with your brother from Warren Central. I am so sorry about his passing. He will be missed again this year at what would be his 40th reunion. Hope your family is all well. We still have Lana's feathered piece on our mantel in our house.
