LIKE A GIRL

   Procter and Gambles' Always brand has generated nearly 18 million views and much more conversation with their "Like a Girl" campaign in social media.

   As the father of two women, strong individualists with extraordinary skill sets and accomplishments and of whom I am proud, I love the message and punch of this video.

    To those who take exception, get over it.  Hard to believe, but there are still people who don't think women should be ordained ministers, or be a CEO, or take command in battle, and etc.  Hate to break it to you, but the earth is not flat either!

    What an attitude that a foggy and cool morning can prompt.  They found a way to our second floor bedroom deck and stirred me from sleep with "Hey bud, our paws are wet out here!"

A THROWBACK

     Long time friend and mentor, Bruce AKA Catalyst started me rummaging through old files when he started his Throwback Thursday photos. You can link to his blog in the column to the right.  Here's a real oldie--from the 70's.  I'm addressing a few thousand people from the terrace of the Arts Building at Ball State. I was a young journalist covering the environmental beat and was asked to keynote the Earth Day observances.

CATS IN BOX, PENTATONIX, ARTS BUILDING MEMORIES & A BEACH WARM UP-THE WEEKENDER

THIS IS MORE THAN CURIOSITY

    Hemingway and Joy love boxes. A container from a trip to our "big box" store was temporarily put in the garage, pending it's filling with Christmas lights.  We didn't move quickly enough.These two rascals decided to encamp there, together! Put a box in the garage and immediately a curious cat is inspecting it from the inside.

DAYS OF MEMORY

    Our friend Lew sent along a summer scene of the Arts Building Terrace at Ball State University. It's a place of special significance to Lana and me.  Her art classes were in this hall as were my political science courses. I addressed a

throng of students who filled the lawn at an early Earth Day celebration and spoke to another crowd while running as a class officer candidate.  

    This was also a green that filled with sun and nap takers, lunch breakers, and romance makers.  It is also a gorgeous building and sits as a boundary to what was once the center of the campus. Could it really have been that long ago?!

                             A PARTING MELODY

   Charles Dickens was right.  Regardless of faith or belief, we should keep Christmas in our heart all year.  Here's a unique take on a seasonal classic.  Enjoy

A TRIP TO SHAMEL BEACH

    As many of you suffer through winter's icy blast, we offer

a few moments of light and sea from California's central coast at Cambria's Shamel Park beach.

   Hope this warmed you a bit and perhaps evoked memories of land without snow and ice.

ROCK RADIO WARS

My long time pal, former colleague and blog mentor

Bruce Taylor, a.k.a. The Catalyst has been

dumbfounded about why I would leave the climes

of the California Central Coast for the bone chilling

temperatures of Indianapolis, especially since the 

Super Bowl is a couple of weeks away.

The reason is a red carpet premiere of a

a documentary in which I am interviewed.

Film maker David Fulton has flown a few of us who now live

on the west coast back to Indianapolis for a round of 

radio and TV interviews, VIP events and the screening

itself. Here's the trailer.

In the last couple of days I've been able to catch up with

former colleagues, see old friends and catch a whiff of the

Super Bowl mania in Indianapolis.

I've been on the 3 major television stations 

including where I anchored for many years.

 David was surprised by how cordial all of the 

television people have been.  I told him that is 

partially a result of having been colleagues

with people who now staff the stations.

The journey also provided a chance for a sentimental

visit to Muncie, home of my Alma Mater Ball State, 

my kid hood home and where my family members are

interred. It is also home to the Pizza King which is the 

home of the ground beef, barbecue pizza.

So, Bruce, even though it has not risen above

20 degrees, there has been some benefit indeed!

The VIP Party, Red Carpet, Limo ride and all of that

is tonight.
